It’s winter, and the rain is heavy, so if you live in Seattle, now is the time to start thinking about how to best prepare your vehicle for the harsh conditions ahead. While we may only get six to seven inches of snow in any given year (this is our average), many of us know that it can get much snowier than that!
Even if snow isn’t on your radar, this cold winter rain requires extra attention. This means checking the health of your tires and wipers and ensuring that your heated seats are still in working condition. This article will explore some of the most critical steps before heading into Seattle’s winter wonderland!
In Bremerton, we know all too well what happens if our windshield wipers aren’t in proper condition. They’ll smear water around, break off, or even make driving more difficult.
Ensure you take care of your wiper blades before the temperature drops below freezing.
First, check them for streaking or wear; replace them if necessary. Then ensure enough fluid in the reservoir tank, so everything runs smoothly! On average, you should replace your windshield wipers every six to twelve months–but if they’re struggling, it’s the time!
The next thing to check is the health of your tires. You can do this by checking the pressure of each tire (if you don’t know how to do that, ask someone), looking at the tread depth (which should be a minimum of 1/16th of an inch), and looking for any damage or cracks in them. Even if your tires look okay, rotating them every 6000 miles is still a good idea.
If the tread looks terrible and you’ve already rotated recently, a new set may be in order. Additionally, you may consider a winter set or an all-season set if you plan on traveling to snowier areas.
If your heater isn’t working, you’ll know! And it’ll probably be a tortuous, frigid winter during your daily commute. It could be as simple as a faulty thermostat or an issue with the engine’s coolant system. On the other hand, if something more serious happens with your heater’s fan or blower motor (or both), you may need a new part or two.
