Transmission Service & Replacement — B&B Auto Repair

Transmission Experts in Kitsap County

Fluid Service, Repair & Replacement Since 1983

Transmission work is one of the most expensive repair categories on any vehicle — and it’s where dealership service departments (and big chain transmission shops) have the greatest incentive to overquote. At B&B Auto Repair, our ASE Certified technicians actually diagnose transmission issues before recommending repair or replacement. A shudder might be a $200 fluid-and-filter service. A harsh shift might be a $350 solenoid. It might be a full rebuild — but we’ll prove it before we quote it.

We service manual transmissions, traditional automatics, CVTs, and DCT/dual-clutch units. For replacement, we offer quality remanufactured options backed by our 2-Year / 24,000-Mile warranty — often at a fraction of what the dealership would charge for the equivalent work. Kitsap County drivers have trusted B&B with their transmissions since 1983.

I appreciate B & B Auto Repair's professionalism and promptness. They have helped me out massively, on a few occasions with my vehicle. Very notably, when I needed a pre-purchase inspection done on a vehicle, they were able to help me same day, though that was not an expected or normal task to add me in so quickly. It made a world of difference to help me through my rough times of having a broken down vehicle and needing to buy another.

We have recently had both my van and my husband's car inspected and repaired by B&B Auto Repair. Both experiences were excellent. The work on my vehicle appears to have resulted in better gas mileage, both highway and local use. B&B just replaced a defective part after several week of use at no cost to me and at my convenience.

Why Transmission Shops Quote “Rebuild” Before Looking

Chain transmission shops advertise “free diagnosis” — but what that often means is a fast test drive and an immediate recommendation for a $3,000–$5,000 rebuild. Dealerships aren’t much better: the default solution is often a complete transmission replacement at $6,000+ when the actual issue is something fixable externally.

At B&B Auto Repair, we pull codes, check fluid condition, inspect the pan for metal, perform live-data tests on shift solenoids and pressure sensors, and road-test the vehicle through its full range of conditions before recommending anything. In many cases, what the dealer called a “bad transmission” turns out to be:

  • Degraded fluid that needs a service — not a rebuild
  • A failed solenoid or pressure sensor — replaceable with the pan down
  • A bad body control module or TCM — repaired or replaced at far less cost
  • A simple external wiring or grounding issue

When a rebuild or replacement really is warranted, we’ll tell you. And when it’s not, we’ll save you thousands.

Full Transmission Services at B&B

  • Transmission fluid service (drain-and-fill, or full flush where recommended)
  • Transmission pan drop, filter replacement, and gasket replacement
  • CVT fluid service using manufacturer-specific fluid (critical — generic ATF will destroy a CVT)
  • DCT (dual-clutch) service and clutch pack service
  • Manual transmission gear oil service and clutch replacement
  • Transmission cooler service and line repair
  • Solenoid and pressure sensor replacement
  • Transmission control module (TCM) diagnosis and replacement
  • Remanufactured transmission replacement
  • Full rebuild for select applications

Common Transmission Issues We See in Kitsap County

  • Slipping or delayed engagement — Can indicate low fluid, worn clutches, or failing solenoids. Fluid check first, then diagnosis.
  • Harsh or jerky shifts — Often a solenoid or pressure control issue, not a worn transmission.
  • Check engine light with shift complaints — TCM fault codes pinpoint the issue.
  • Shudder at highway speeds — Often a torque converter clutch issue; sometimes resolvable with the correct fluid change.
  • CVT noise or “rubber band” feel — Usually needs the exact manufacturer CVT fluid; generic ATF makes it worse.

Serving Bremerton, Silverdale, and All of Kitsap County

B&B Auto Repair is located at 299 South National Avenue in Bremerton. Drivers from Silverdale, Port Orchard, Poulsbo, Bainbridge Island, Kingston, and across the Kitsap Peninsula come to us for transmission work because we diagnose before we quote.

Kitsap County driving conditions — stop-and-go traffic near the shipyard, hill and valley commutes on SR-3, and occasional heavy-load work for contractors — all put real stress on transmissions. Regular fluid service at the manufacturer’s recommended interval is the single best thing you can do to avoid a catastrophic failure.

The B&B Difference: Honest Transmission Work

When a dealership quotes you $6,000 for a new transmission, how do you know that’s really what you need? At B&B, we show you the evidence. We explain the codes, the pressure readings, the fluid condition, and the test drive findings. You see the proof — and you decide. No pressure, no “limited time offer” upsell, no mystery charges.

Call or text B&B Auto Repair at (360) 377-0682 to schedule a transmission diagnosis or service. We’ll tell you what’s actually wrong — and often save you thousands versus the dealership quote.

What Our Bremerton Customers Ask Most

Most automatics benefit from fluid service every 30,000–60,000 miles. CVTs often require more frequent service (30,000 miles) with the exact manufacturer CVT fluid. Severe service — towing, stop-and-go, heavy loads — shortens the interval. Your owner’s manual is the starting point.

Maybe — maybe not. Many transmission problems are solvable for far less than a full replacement. Before committing to that level of expense, bring the vehicle to B&B for a proper diagnosis. We’ll tell you honestly what’s wrong and what the most cost-effective fix is.

Yes. CVT service is critical and requires the exact manufacturer-specified fluid — Toyota CVTF FE, Honda CVT Fluid, Nissan NS-2/NS-3, Subaru HCF-2, etc. Using generic ATF in a CVT will destroy it. We use the correct fluid for every vehicle.

Yes. We source quality remanufactured transmissions when replacement is the right path, and install them at significantly lower cost than dealership pricing. All replacements are covered by our 2-Year / 24,000-Mile warranty.

Yes. All transmission repair and replacement work at B&B is backed by our 2-Year / 24,000-Mile warranty on parts and labor — stronger than what most dealerships offer.
