A trouble code tells you a system has a problem. It does not tell you which component failed or why. A P0301 “Cylinder 1 Misfire” could be a spark plug, an ignition coil, a fuel injector, a vacuum leak, low compression, or a timing issue. A dealership might replace the coil and plug — $300 — and if the misfire persists, they move to the injector, then the valve job. Each step adds cost.
