4×4 & Four-Wheel Drive Service — B&B Auto Repair

4×4 Specialists in Kitsap County

Transfer Cases, Differentials, Driveshafts & 4WD Systems — Since 1983

4×4 vehicles are built for Pacific Northwest conditions — but only if the 4WD system is actually working. A failed transfer case motor, a leaking front differential, or a worn u-joint can leave you stuck or put your drivetrain at risk. At B&B Auto Repair, our ASE Certified technicians service every part of your 4×4 system, from electronic transfer case actuators to mechanical t-cases and lockers, at honest prices and with a real warranty.

We service Jeeps, Broncos, F-150s, F-250s/350s, Chevy/GMC 1500s and HDs, Tacomas, Tundras, Silverados, Ram trucks, Subarus, and just about every other 4WD and AWD platform Kitsap County drivers bring through the door. And unlike the dealership, we don’t reflexively quote a $4,500 transfer case replacement when your issue is a $250 shift motor. Kitsap County drivers have trusted B&B since 1983, and every repair is backed by our 2-Year / 24,000-Mile warranty.

Serving Bremerton, Silverdale, and All of Kitsap County

B&B Auto Repair is located at 299 South National Avenue in Bremerton. 4×4 owners from Silverdale, Port Orchard, Poulsbo, Bainbridge Island, Kingston, and across the Kitsap Peninsula trust us for everything from routine diff service to complex transfer case repair.

Pacific Northwest 4WD vehicles work harder than most. Wet winters, logging-road use, boat-ramp launches, and occasional snow runs over Stevens or Snoqualmie all add up. Fluid contamination from water intrusion is especially common in our climate — we catch it during routine service before it damages bearings or clutch packs.

The B&B Difference: Real 4×4 Diagnosis

When a dealership tells you your transfer case is bad, how do you know? At B&B, we isolate the failure: electrical vs. mechanical, input-side vs. output-side, t-case vs. control module. You see the evidence, you see the options, and you pay for the actual repair — not the easy upsell.

Call or text B&B Auto Repair at (360) 377-0682 to schedule 4×4 service, diagnosis, or repair.

Why 4×4 Service Is Especially Overquoted at Dealerships

4WD systems have a lot of moving parts: a transfer case with its own fluid and seals, two differentials (three on AWD with a center diff), multiple driveshafts with u-joints or CV joints, electronic shift motors and actuators, and in modern vehicles, a dedicated control module. Any one of these can fail — and when one does, the dealership tends to quote the most expensive possible fix.

A classic example: Dodge and Ram owners come to us after the dealership quoted a $3,500 transfer case replacement for a “4WD won’t engage” complaint. Nine times out of ten, the actual failure is a $250 encoder motor that bolts to the outside of the t-case. Another classic: an F-150 with a rough 4WD engagement gets a “replace the entire front axle” quote, when the real fix is a $180 integrated wheel-end (IWE) solenoid and a check valve.

At B&B Auto Repair, we diagnose the actual failure point — not the easiest-to-replace assembly — and charge for what it really takes to fix it.

Common 4×4 Issues We See in Kitsap County

  • “4WD won’t engage” warning — Usually the shift motor or control module, not the transfer case itself.
  • Clunks when shifting into 4WD — Often front driveshaft or u-joint, sometimes transfer case internals.
  • Vibration at highway speed — Driveshaft balance, u-joint wear, or CV joint damage.
  • Leaks on the driveway — Transfer case output shaft seals, front pinion seals, or diff cover gaskets.
  • Grinding or humming from the front axle — Worn wheel bearings, bad CV joints, or failing front differential.
  • Ford F-150 IWE problems — Classic symptom: 4WD grinding or clicking on startup in cold weather.

I appreciate B & B Auto Repair's professionalism and promptness. They have helped me out massively, on a few occasions with my vehicle. Very notably, when I needed a pre-purchase inspection done on a vehicle, they were able to help me same day, though that was not an expected or normal task to add me in so quickly. It made a world of difference to help me through my rough times of having a broken down vehicle and needing to buy another.

We have recently had both my van and my husband's car inspected and repaired by B&B Auto Repair. Both experiences were excellent. The work on my vehicle appears to have resulted in better gas mileage, both highway and local use. B&B just replaced a defective part after several week of use at no cost to me and at my convenience.

What Our Bremerton Customers Ask Most

Most manufacturers recommend fluid service every 30,000–60,000 miles; heavier use (towing, off-road, wet conditions) shortens the interval. Water intrusion is the silent killer in Kitsap County — we often find milky fluid on trucks that have been to boat ramps or done any water crossings.

Almost certainly not. The most common cause of 4WD engagement failure is an electronic shift motor, encoder, or control module — all far less expensive than a transfer case replacement. We’ll diagnose the exact failure before quoting anything.

Yes. Ford’s integrated wheel end system has well-known failure patterns — especially cold-weather 4WD grinding and clicking. We service the solenoids, check valves, and wheel-end actuators that are the usual culprits.

Yes. We service NP and BW transfer cases, Dana 30/35/44/60 axles, AAM axles, and the full range of Jeep, Ram, and other 4×4 drivetrain components.

Yes. All 4×4 repair work at B&B Auto Repair is backed by our 2-Year / 24,000-Mile warranty on parts and labor.
